On the ration

Eight months, off and on, so far, living on 1940s food rations.

Weekly rations per person (1945)

  • These are our rations since February
  • Bacon and ham - 4oz/115g
  • Red meat - £1.32 (adjusted for inflation)
  • Eggs - 1
  • Powdered egg - 0.25 packet
  • Cheese - 2oz/55g
  • Butter, Margarine & Lard - 8oz/230g
  • Sugar - 8oz/230g
  • Tea - 2oz/60g
  • Jam & Marmalade - 4oz/115g
